Film a swing. Read what to fix next.

RallyRead watches a tennis stroke on your iPhone, tracks the body and the racket, measures the positions coaches look for, and gives a short list of tips that fit the player's age and level. Then it hands you a drill for each one and shows whether practice is paying off. Everything runs on the phone.

For iPhone, iOS 17 or later.

Five strokes, each with its own checklist

Pick the stroke before you film. RallyRead measures what matters for that stroke, and skips a measurement when the video can't show it clearly instead of guessing.

Groundstroke

Forehand

Shoulder turn, knee bend, contact in front, spacing, follow-through, head still and racket speed.

Groundstroke

Two-handed backhand

The same seven checks, with backhand targets.

Groundstroke

One-handed backhand

Checks for a straight hitting arm at contact in place of spacing.

Net play

Volley

Compact backswing, short finish, contact in front and a steady head.

Serve

Serve

Knee bend, tossing arm, reaching up, arm extension, finish and racket speed.

How it works

A first-launch tour shows where to stand and how to frame the shot, with illustrated filming tips you can reopen any time.

Add a player

A first name or nickname, an age group (Junior, Teen or Adult), handedness and level. No birthday, no account.

Film side-on

Prop the phone at hip height with the whole body in view. The built-in recorder films at up to 120 fps. You can also import a clip from Photos.

Get a score, tips and drills

Each swing is found and measured. You get a score, one strength and the top two or three things to work on, each with a drill.

Practice and re-check

Set a baseline, follow a short drill plan, then film again to see what improved.

A coaching loop, not just a score

Every stroke follows the same loop: measure where the player starts, practice a few things on purpose, then check what changed.

Step 1

Baseline

The first five good swings of a stroke set its starting point. They can come from several clips, and a bar shows how many are still needed. Once it's set, it stays fixed, so later clips are always compared with the same start.

Step 2

Drill plan

RallyRead picks the two or three things that will help most (two for beginners and juniors). You can add others. A plan runs for a set number of practice sessions, six by default, and you tick each one off as you go.

Step 3

Evaluate again

Whenever you're ready, film five more swings. Each item is marked against the baseline and the last check:

ImprovedHoldingSlipped

Small wobbles between swings don't count as a change. Moving up a level never makes the player look worse.

Clips filmed in between are practice: they still get full feedback, but they don't move the progress numbers.

Drills that show the move

Every tip links to a drill made for that stroke, 21 in all.

Animated demos

A looping stick figure shows the move, with short cues like "Turn & hold" and "Freeze", and markers for the contact zone or how low to sit. Left-handers see it mirrored.

Steps and reps

Numbered steps, reps for the player's level, and a "you've got it when" check so you know when to move on.

Practice log and charts

Tap "I did this drill" to log practice. Each drill page charts that item's score over time, with practice days marked, and every tip shows the change since the last session.

See the racket path

RallyRead tracks the racket head and draws its path through every swing, light blue where it's slow and yellow where it's fast. The clip replays on a loop with the body skeleton, in slow motion if you like.

Coaching that fits the player

The same swing gets different advice for a nine-year-old and a club player.

Junior (under 13)

Simple, upbeat tips, two at a time, with slightly easier targets.

Teen (13 to 17)

Direct tips that explain why, with targets a little below adult.

Adult (18 and over)

Full adult standards and more technical coaching.

Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels raise the bar from there. Score 90 or more and RallyRead suggests moving up a level. Scores are a training aid, not a medical or injury assessment.
